Cognitive Coaching(SM) for Educational Leaders.
Cognitive Coaching(SM) was developed as a means to support teachers
with their teaching. It is based upon the premise that teaching is a
professional act and Coaches within schools support teachers to
become more resourceful in their teaching. Many schools have
employed coaches to work with their community and some education
systems are employing coaches to support teachers to improve
teaching and learning across their contexts.
As knowledge of the Cognitive Coaching(SM) process has developed,
questions arise about how the same knowledge, skills and tools might
be applied with groups and organisations. Given the shortage of time
in schools and the inherent collaborative culture of schools and
teaching, it makes sense to think and learn about the groups and
organisational aspects of coaching.
When 'thinking' and 'self directedness' is the priority of the
Educational leader... or Coach... he or she becomes the
organisational developer of the school or the District and this role
can be enhanced by assisting them to develop:
1. Shared norms and values,
2. Knowledge of principles of learning and
teaching,
3. Collaborative decision-making structures,
and
4. Processes that provide for ongoing growth, efficiency and
effectiveness
This workshop is an introduction to Cognitive Coaching(SM) and will
explore the ways in which leaders can embed the principles of
thinking and collaboration into the culture of their building, so
that they are expected ways of interacting with everyone in the
organisation.
